ABOUT THE ARTIST
Johnny Gunn began performing professionally
in 1990 at the age of 15. He was the rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist
of a Northern B.C. rock group called THE
SHOTGUNN SYMPHONY until 1995. During those five years the group enjoyed
much local success with airplay and media coverage and performed regularly
in and around the Peace River area of British Columbia and Alberta as well
as the City of Prince George, B.C.
They played in a variety of venues
in the region including halls with incredible turnouts. Their pop melodies
consistently attracted a large crowd. The Shotgunn Symphony began working
in the studio in 1991 with producer James Oldenburg and, later, with the
release of their second EP the band began to receive more attention from
outlying areas. It was distributed across British Columbia for sale and
was played on radio stations in the four western provinces. The height
of their success came at the time of the group’s demise as Johnny Gunn
and partner BOBBY RICHARDS split.
Following the disbanding of The Shotgunn Symphony, Johnny Gunn began writing for a new project. Several of the first tracks he recorded in Spokane, Washington as he began playing acoustic shows as a soloist in the Kootenay region of B.C. and Southern Alberta. He enjoyed more local airplay here as well. By 1997 he had begun a venture to the south and performed regularly in Guatemala, Honduras and Southern Mexico. He continued to work on the album project and did some further studio work in Victoria, B.C. during a brief return to Canada. In 1999 he abandoned the project and moved back to Canada playing occasionally in Calgary, Alberta while he began recording his fresh debut solo project "Revolution". The new material is an exciting blend of the pop rock style he delivered while in The Shotgunn Symphony and the introspective folk material he had been working on since.
Over the past ten years, Johnny Gunn has written and recorded a wealth of original material with great commercial potential and has performed extensively all the while. He has received frequent attention and coverage in airplay, interviews, articles and reviews regarding his work as a songwriter and performer. We would like to hear any feedback you might have regarding this aspiring new artist.
